I purchased a Ruger 44 carbine to punch holes in paper & to shoot pigs with my son. A pretty little rifle. Very clean, very good bluing and nice wood. I loaded 3 different powders with 5 different charges each pushing a 240 gr. JFP. Never so dissapointed in all my life. Trigger pull felt like 10# with 2" of travel. I thought about installing a trigger kit. None, (Wolf, Volquartsen & Timney) ever produced for this rifle. I field stripped the rifle and found that only the barrel band secured the action to the stock. The recoil block did have a threaded end to secure it to the stock. The gun was minus a recoil bolt that secured the action through the stock, and the stock was never drilled to lock in place. Thought that all this recoil/movement must also contribute to all the cracked stocks that we see. Going to drill out the stock and bolt it in place as it should be. Ruger acknowleged that there were "many" of these carbines that went out without the recoil bolt.
    Good luck guys
