I am looking to purchase a Smith & Wesson model 41 5.5". There are several used on Gunbroker and Gunsamerica but I am not sure about which one to purchase. Are there any certain generations to look for or stay away from? Some of the ones I looked at were produced in the 80's. What is a good price for one in excellent condition? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I paid $800 for mine about 2 yr. ago. It's a 7 3/8 inch , mint, in the box. I also ran a WTB add here, on BayouShooter, about 6 mo. ago, and found a local seller who was asking $1k, firm. If you can find one in .22 short, w. counterweight and muzzle break ( model 41-1), they are much more expensive, in the $2k range. I'm not aware of any mod. 41s that are undesirable.
    Good luck w. your search.

They all seem to be good (no bad models). I have a 5.5 and a 7-3/8 with brake - both "A" models with cocking indicator - and both shoot well. The "A" models seem to sell at a slight premium but I never heard that they shoot any differently. 800-1000$ seems to be the going price range. Great shooting guns.
