I’ve been thinking getting into gaming, it looks like USPSA has the most options. I see EAPS, Tangi, Cajun action, and gulf coast. How to choose a good chapter for beginners? I shoot a Beretta 92 and a red hill tactical holster with just thumbscrew friction retention. Will this work or is it a Glock world? I also have an AR, can a uspsa pistol rig be setup that works well in 2gun/3gun or would two different belts be needed? Id been interested in PRS/NRL but I dont see a presence in LA.

**1. Don't be scared to come out, and don't think of it as a competition, think of it as good training/practice. Don't think you aren't good enough. Also don't expect to come out on your first day and win. Your number one goal at first in every type of match is just not to DQ.**

I shoot USPSA, 2gun, 3gun, Steel Challenge, and PRS so I can help you get started. I use the same belt for all of it but mine is the ELS system so I can add and remove rifle mag holders, shotgun shell holders, and my PRS rifle mag holders. Look at the Safariland ELS belt systems. I can show you mine. Double Alpha has other good options.

For USPSA, you don't need to "choose a good chapter". All the same people shoot the matches, the only difference is they are in diff locations and the stages are designed/set up by different people and each match has it's own weekend. Donaldsonville is 1st Sunday, MCTA 2nd Sunday, EAPS 3rd Sunday, Tangi 4th & 5th Sunday, DSSA 3rd or 4th Sunday also. NRF (NaturalRightFirearms) in Hattisburg MS shoots on the 3rd Saturday. You don't need to be a USPSA or chapter member to shoot. It's not a "Glock World" at all. Use what you have. Your RHT holster is perfect. Don't worry about divisions or classifications for at least the first 6-10 matches. When you check in and pay (normally $20) tell them what you are shooting and they will put you in the correct division. All the matches use Practiscore to register.

2gun is at CRPC in Biloxi on 4th Sunday.

3gun is SMPSA in Poplarville on 1st Sunday.

PRS is in LA at the Prince Range in Pioneer. Look up LPRC (Louisiana Precision Rifle Club) https://www.facebook.com/groups/968746629830776

PRS is also at Gunline in MS, and Altus in FL, etc.

Palo Alto holds some 600yd center fire matches (1st and 2nd Sat) and also new PRS .22LR matches (4th Sunday).

These links should get you started.

DM me if you need more help. Thanks

jcomar1 pretty much cover everything. Just bring what you have and about 200rds of ammo. We typically don't go over 120rds per match, but having extra is a good idea. Incase of a reshoot or you plan to miss a lot.

When you check in let the person know you are a new shooter. We will have a new shooters meeting to go over the basic range rules, range commands, 180's, etc.

We have quite a few USPSA, Steel Challenge, etc shooter here and can answer any of your questions.

As said above, the biggest thing is don't be afraid to come out! It's very intimidating at first, but once you get to know most of the local shooters you will feel comfortable. We all love new shooters coming out, and most of the ROs are very helpful. I would familiarize yourself with the rules and language of USPSA so you are not totally in the dark when you show up. I would also recommend going to help setup a match. You will get to meet the local club guys and they can answer your questions and get you started.

    ^^^ Agreed.
Going to help with a match setup will give some great insight into wow and why we build the stage the way we do. The next match setup, I believe will be at Tangi this Saturday (Weather Permitting).
I haven't been out there in a while. I think they still do Saturday setup starting at noon. You can check out their facebook page, just search Tangipohoa Practical Shooters and send a message about setup.

The next setup I will be involved in will be CAS - Cajun Action Shooters at Palo Alto in Donaldsonville. We will be setting up on Saturday Feb 4 at 8:00am. We typically finish set up around 11:00 (Weather Permitting)

If Donaldsonville cancels the match this weekend, Tangi will be having a match on Sunday. Setup would start at 7am on Sunday
Looks like Tangi is canceled for Sunday, but looks like CAS is happening Sunday. CAS and EAPS both are out of Palo Alto? I’m not a member of the range.

Anyone know of any local 3 gun matches? I think the one for SMPSA is on hold indefinitely. By local I mean 150 miles or so from NOLA. Thanks

Every club that hosts a match that fits your criteria is in that list above. There is a 2Gun match at "Boondocks"
    11771 Highway 18
    Raymond, MS 39154

this Sat. It's 180 miles so that's close to meeting your criteria.
