Greetings all. For those unaware, I'm on the Board of the Louisiana Shooting Association, which advocates for citizens gun rights in the legislature along with NRO, GOA, etc.

One of the things I do is watch the sausage get made in committee meetings. Everyone should do it at least once. If something escapes committee, good or bad, it has crossed a significant threshold toward becoming the law of the land.

Real talk folks - anyone that can show up and put in the green cards/red cars as appropriate can make a difference.

Of particular note is a HB 721 that would allow teachers with a CHL to carry on campus - we're working toward adding some details that would involve carry on person and a an additional training component but we need teachers there in support and ideally willing to either speak to the committee about their desire to not be sitting ducks, or possible if they would put it in writing they don't necessarily need to speak.

The schedule for Wednesday is below

HB 62 MCCORMICK WEAPONS/FIREARMS Provides relative to enforcement of federal firearm laws

HB 408 LANDRY, MANDIE WEAPONS/FIREARMS Provides for the creation of the "Louisiana Voluntary Do Not Sell List"

HB 498 KNOX CRIME Provides relative to firearm-free zones

HB 604 GREEN WEAPONS Provides relative to the carrying of weapons by a convicted felon

HB 627 LANDRY, MANDIE WEAPONS Provides relative to permitless concealed carry

HB 721 VENTRELLA WEAPONS/HANDGUNS Provides for the carrying of a concealed weapon by a certified teacher or school administrator on a school campus

HB 775 RISER WEAPONS Provides relative to preemption of state law

SB 43 MCMATH WEAPONS Provides for carrying of concealed firearms by qualified retired law enforcement officers

SB 105 SEABAUGH CRIME/PUNISHMENT Provides relative to the crime of possession of or carrying a concealed weapon by a person convicted of certain felonies

SB 132 MILLER, G. CRIME/PUNISHMENT Provides relative to the crimes of illegal carrying of a firearm and reckless discharge of a firearm at a parade

SB 152 MIGUEZ WEAPONS Provides relative to the right of law-abiding citizens to carry concealed handguns lawfully without a permit

SB 194 MIGUEZ WEAPONS Provides for the preemption of state law

    for firearms

SB 214 MIGUEZ WEAPONS Allows the concealed carrying of
firearms in a restaurant that serves alcohol
SB 233 MIGUEZ WEAPONS Provides for the carrying of concealed
firearms by qualified law enforcement officers and
    qualified retired law enforcement officers

SB 377 KLEINPETER WEAPONS Prohibits possession of firearms,
ammunition, or electric weapons or devices by certain
    felons

Didn’t take the LSM and Dems long to criticize Constitutional Carry after this shooting…waiting until the very end of the article to mention that the legislation hasn’t even taken effect yet

Lawmakers who represent the Warehouse District urged for changes to be made to recent legislation that will allow anybody over the age of 18 to carry concealed firearms without needing a permit.

LSA had a strong day in the committee room.

The 4 LSA Board members donated about 28 hours of our time today, and are happy to do it. That is two attorneys, and two other professionals that bill similar numbers to an attorney when we're on the clock.

It is $15 to join the LSA.
