Maybe they can't be as concealment as a knife, but there is still both a utility and nostalgic feel by having a tomahawk on hand when your out in the wilderness. The traditional pipe hawk is still a favorite of mine. I'm looking forward to when a bladesmith I know will make me a full tang spiked hawk.

Not that a gun or knife isn't but a tomahawk in defense makes for a messy kill.injury. Lol..... I say really....whatever works as a defensive weapon.

I noticed the Damascus edge, really wicked looking! I love 'bearded' axes. Did you make it?

Yes I did make it, this was my first tomahawk. I hade a piece of damascus 32 layers of 15n20 and 1084 leftover from a knife I made. Forge welded it into a mild steel wrapped body on a curly maple handle.

Depends on what you're doing. When I'm out in the wilderness, I have weighed everything that's on me to the nearest gram on a food scale. A tomahawk doesn't offer much utility to me for my purposes.

Now, aside from that, I think they'd be a cool toy to have and mess around with. Winkler Knives makes some badass ones!

It is a lot better for cutting wood than a knife. I've been miles from a boat ramp and cut a shear pin for a boat motor from an old nail found in a board that had been washed up in the marsh by more than likely a hurricane tide. Probably couldn't have done that with a knife.

They are great for throwing. Have 3 that were forged. 2 with sharpened beards and top edges and one I sharpened myself. H&B forge makes a good one. Unfortunately prices have gone up but it's a one man operation. I like that you can bang the handle on something and take them down if you want. Then put back together when needed. Also makes it easy to do a make shift handle if needed.
