Was on SPD's Facebook page and posed the question: What is SPD's take on civilians who open carry with a handgun? I'm talking about people who can legally own a firearm.
Their response was: Hello Thomas: As police officers we take an oath to support the Constitution of the United States of America and clearly we are going to let that obligation guide us in our responsibilities of fairly and equitably enforcing the laws of our land. Before taking any kind of enforcement action, officers must believe that what they are about to do is moral, ethical and legal. We are are bound by the laws that govern us all and we will not operate outside of those boundaries set forth by our legislators. So, as far as our take on legal issues goes, our stance is that we are going to faithfully and impartially, with common sense and discretion, enforce the laws that we all have to live by- no more, no less.
