What I have a problem with is gay couples, being married, would be legally able to adopt. I find this disturbing, every other aspect I have not a problem with.
Gay is not a government problem, it's a religion problem. Last I checked the government's decisions are not to be controlled by the opinions of religion.
Everyone wants freedom as long as it aligns with THEIR ideals.
Word is The Village People have been invited to the White House.....
I don't think it really matters as long as the kid is treated properly and they don't force their views on the child. However, I don't know any kids with gay parents, so I can't say. There is something to be said for having both a mother and a father. You know, one with breasts and one without (and I don't mean the gyno kind you see around here slogging out of the arm-hole of a mustard-stained wifebeater).
I'll do everything in my power to keep my children from becoming gay, it's not a lifestyle I admire. However, if life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness (and property) are inalienable rights, it's up the the individual to decide what makes them happy and unconstitutional for the government to deny this.
Because marriage (from a legal aspect) is sanctioned by governments, gay people are looking to have the ability to gain that blessing. In the truest form of liberty, you wouldn't need the government's buy-in to be married anyway, the government's sole purpose would be to ensure your freedom to do so (and do some record-keeping I suppose).

I don't think gay people are "wired the same", though. No law is going to change how you're wired. All of the gays I have known are wired uniquely. Trying to outlaw it would be like trying to outlaw Type A personality or something. You're kids aren't going to "catch the gay" or some crap.
Why is this news?
screw them fudgepackers,
It's all about rights, ya'll.
A lot of people in our country that would dance on George Washington's grave to remove our guns. Do we appreciate it when someone who doesn't particular LIKE guns, still agrees that we have a right to own one?
I won't fight tooth and nail for my idea of what I should and shouldn't be able to do, and assume I also have the right to tell others what they can and cannot do.
+1, which is why I am a fan of equality, the fact that its "equality for gays" doesn't matter one bit to me. I'm tired of all the "legislated morality" in this country. Blue laws? Seriously? Etc.
Although while being adopted by a gay couple may not seem ideal to some, Im sure it would be a blessing to many children who live in far far worse conditions.
BTW I personally belive homosexuality is immoral, but the government intrusion on the lives of the American people that has gotten us to where we are is far more repulsive.
I don't know everything about adoption, as I don't know anyone personally who has adopted a child. My statements come based upon what I have gathered over time, and I don't speak in certainty. However, based on my knowledge, and do correct me if I am wrong, there are parents who cannot conceive that wait months, or longer to have a chance at parenthood through adoption. Therefore, the way I see it, a non-gay couple should have first chance at giving a child a home. To me this is more fair for the couple, and the child. Now, if my knowledge is in fact not on point, and there are more children in need of adoption to a good home than there are heterosexual couple looking to adopt, then by all means, get the children out of the hands of the state. Be it to gay parents or not, I am sure the child would be grateful to have real parents that actually care for him/her, and are willing to show love and attention. I am not a homo-hater, by all means, but when it comes to gays adopting children to play house, it just doesn't feel right to me. At least give the heterosexual couples first shot at adopting, and if there isn't enough of these couple to get the job done, then like I said, gay parents would be better than no parents.
Adopting children is expensive and many are very selective. There are lots of children to adopt, but many want a specific child.
Whether the parents views are pressed into the child or not, they have gay parents which makes me believe that now, the kid is more prone to being gay. Beside this, do you not think the kid will be treated differently in public places, such as school, because the other kids know he/she has gay parents? It would be problematic for the child, and no one here can deny that. I just don't believe they (gays) should be allowed to adopt. They have chosen a life style that does not produce kids, we were made the way we are for a reason, and it would not be healthy for a child to be raised by 2 of the same gender.
