Anyone else work in the sun alllllll day long? If so, what do you drink? I usually just drink water, yesterday I threw up multiple times, all of the water I drank and the two little slices of ham I ate. Any recommendations?

half strength Gatorade. half strength tastes like shite but it is better. Regular gatorade can actually dehydrate you more. something with the amount of sugar in it.

I am going to assume you keep your water as cold as possible. Try drinking warm water instead of cold during the work day, and save the cold water for after work is over. That always works for me.

Also, instead of ham, fruit like watermelon or apples makes a much better light lunch in that kind of heat.

If you're throwing up a lot, this is the way to go. I studied a lot of Public Health in college, and had to do a paper on this boring crap (sorry, electrolytes and dehydration is not my area of interest).

if you're working in the sun all day, sweating and vomiting, then start getting cramps in legs, stomach, or arms, go to ER.

Im not concerned with flavor, just dont want to be sick again.

Well the flavor isn't anyone else concern either. Gatorade and the like have things in them your body needs that water doesn't. Drinking all the water in the world won't do any good if your shorting yourself electrolytes and nutrients. At our plan they keep electrolyte tables readily available and each morning they mix up 5 gallon coolers of Squencher (basically a bulk buy/industrial Gatorade) for us to have through the day.

what the others said. drink it less cold. cool is fine throw it in the ice chest in water to keep it from being hot and drink 2 waters to 1 gatorade/powerade. you can drink to much electrolytes and be as bad off as not enough. as hot as it is you should pretty much drink 2 waters and a gatorade/power every hour. i don't know what kind of work you do but try to push harder in the mornings and save the easier work for after lunch time. eat a light lunch such as fruits or a dry samwich at best (no mustard/mayo as that doesn't sit well on a hot stomach)

Excessive sweating can result in potassium deficiency. Results can be cramping, irregular heart rhythm, and others. It is an electrolyte, but the electrolyte drinks may be insufficient to replace what you are sweating out. Maybe try some light potassium rich foods like banana or cantaloupe during the day.

is that all you ate? my guess would be that you're suffering from exhaustion/heat exhaustion, working in the sun all day with very little food and almost no carbs. eat some more carbs, you should be fine.

When I fish all day I usually alternate powerade and water... For some reason it seems to keep me better hydrated than one or the other alone.

Water is all you should drink. But that's assuming you are eating halfway decent as well. I only drink water offshore, every once in a while I will treat myself to ice tea but only for dinner....never lunch.
I've come close to having a heat stroke twice before so now I only drink water. And I don't have problems.
