    haven't there been 2 other threads saying signs that say "no firearms allowed" carry no weight in Louisiana?

    They don't, but they know that (the promoters/prop owners) so the special Olympic participants that say I carry where I want to regardless of respecting the property owners rights are faced with a uniformed officer at the door asking if they are armed. So now they must state they are armed due to chp law.
    All in all the signs deter most people who will respect the wishes and for those who dont are now forced to when asked by the officer if they are armed or they can turn around and walk out.

    Do we have to answer the officer? Is it legal for the officer to ask me that question if I'm not suspected of a crime?

    I'm not trying to be a dick, i'm genuinely curious.

    Do you have a CHP? If so, where did you take your class and have you ever actually taken the time to read the laws?

    "The permit shall be retained by the permittee who shall immediately produce it upon the request of any law enforcement officer. Anyone who fails to do so shall be fined not more than one hundred dollars. Additionally, when any peace officer approaches a permittee in an official manner or with an identified purpose, the permittee shall:

    Notify the officer that he has a weapon on his person;

    Submit to a pat down;

    Allow the officer to temporarily disarm him."

    Law states that you must disclose you are carrying when approached by an officer.

    Edit: See above. I was a little slow on the submit button

    ok, so even if I am not suspected of having committed a crime, the police can just come up to me and ask if I they have a weapon?

    I just switched over my residence to LA from WA, so I have yet to take a LA CHP class (soon), so my old WA CPL is no longer valid, so right now I dont carry unless its at my house or in my car(not on me in the car), so the differences between the state laws confuse me a bit, but once I get my LA CHP I bet I will have a good idea of the laws here...

    (on a side note I dont particularly care for the part were you have to notify the officer your carrying from the get-go, in WA it was only if asked...)

    Yep. And if you have a concealed permit you better tell them.

    Are you answering in the context of me walking into a gun show? Or are you answering the general context of me being anywhere else in the public?

    Gonna be a dick here and say that in this instance you are not being approached by the officer, you are approaching the officer. Same words different meaning.

    IN AN OFFICIAL MANNER. Not just when a cop asks how your day is going or if that's a Prada bag or something. It doesn't change the situation at hand, I just felt like being a stickler and making the distinction. Just so you don't feel like you have to immediately go "SIR I HAVE A GUN" when one gives you an up-nod and a "How's it goin" in line at the local Community Coffee shack.

    When I go to gun shows, I don't approach the officers, I walk up to the ticket counter to get in the show.

    The law is pretty clear but;
    Outside of any private property (public) where not restricted you have the right to carry concealed on your person with a state issued CHP. If approached for any reason while carrying said weapon you must by law tell the officer you are a chp holder and you are armed or unarmed if asked. If not asked it only respectful to notify him you are a permit holder and are armed. If he does not approach you with an identified reason and does not ask if you are armed you do not have to notify him( but it respectful to do so)
    I hope this answers your questions and clears it up for you.

    Ok. I don't think you are getting it lol
    When you are line they have signs everywhere. Ok you choose to ignore those signs and disrespect the owners rights to put up that sign. so be it to hell with him you say and you carry anyway. After you receive your ticket you walk through the doors to the officer where he has his table set up to check in all weapons and ammunition. He now in an official manner asks if you have any firearms of live ammunition. You are required by law to tell him yes you are armed!
    This is of course if you are a chp holder and concealing. If concealing without a CHP you are already breaking the law.

    True but to apply it to the scenario proposed by the other member I would say that an officer in uniform working the entrance to the gun show asking you a direct question is official manner

    It's really a miracle more vehicles aren't broken into in the Gun Show parking lots.
    I bet many guns get "left in the truck"

    That is one of the few times I leave it at home
