They actually received funding for the prototypes from from the highway admin, I believe it was.
Not only would it create jobs but much safer roadways. The fact that it can alert you to objects ahead via LED lighting is amazing. Plus it is all heated and would keep the roads from freezing over and icing.
I agree everything about it is awesome. I'm just saying, think of the expense and hassle even repairing or modifying current roads. Millions of dollars and a month of traffic headaches to add a lane on a 1/2 mile stretch or road. I imagine the time to install the solar system would be even greater, and the time it would take to train entire worforces on the install. Just not even fathomable to replace entire roadways with it anytime soon.
I can totally see them doing some parking lots and recreational areas with the technology though, and possibly some new roadways. Good ol' fashioned blacktop interstates and highways aren't going away for a looooooong time.
