I went to Wal Mart yesterday...was able to pick up 9mm, get a haircut, fill up my truck, and buy groceries cheaper than I can anywhere else. I do try to support my local stores, but damn my ass hurts when I leave.

    Wait...you get a haircut at Walmart????? :eek4:

the fact that you're at a Walmart is what bothers me.....you can buy and consume whatever you want, just don't give your money to Wally World

Unfortunately, it's convenient! Plus, who can resist the opportunity to add to their "People of Walmart" photo collection. While I do shop at other locations such as Albertson's and Brookshires, there really aren't many options. Once they open the new Whole Foods in Shreveport, I may drive over there and check it out.

Go ahead and tells us why.

As opposed to paying more for the exact same cheap Chinese crap elsewhere?

It does matter where you spend your money. But it IS your money, and the prices of groceries are getting out of control. So you all do what is best for your financial situation.

The reason I, The Ultimate Consumer; despise going to a Wal-Mart is the there is definitely some chromosome deficiencies in the customer base as a whole. Not to mention the overall lack of grooming, politeness, courtesy, hygiene, etc.

It's really uncanny how that big store attracts the dregs.

Yeah but then you have to deal with the rude stockers blocking all the isles with boxes and giving you dumb looks when you start moving **** out of the way so you can get to what you want. 6 of 1, half a dozen of the other if you ask me.

I'm talking about the customers!
I have to agree. I try to avoid Wal-Martians at all cost. Having worked there for a couple years during college, I have come to realize that everyone graduating high school should have to do a 2 year stint in the military or a 2 year stint at Wal-Mart. They will appreciate a good job afterward. Dealing with those customers was a nightmare

Where the money stays; and whether it benefits your community or not.

The best most in your face example are the big chain restaurants eg. Olive Garden, Outback, Chili's, etc. They spend huge amounts of money to advertise and bring the masses in. And then the masses flock in. They are doing well.

Here's where it matters. Other than the location's general manager or any other upper management, the jobs are basically low pay across the board. So, those employees won't contribute to the local economy with any meaningful impact. In other words, they won't really be buying and spending the type of money that would benefit THEIR local community.

Just about every one of these companies home offices are not from here (as an example). So other than the sales taxes, and property taxes (if they aren't exempt or have lucrative tax incentives to be here), all of the money goes back to whichever state they are domiciled.

Now here is the biggest killer. Like Wal-Mart, these companies have their own distribution warehouses that are for the most part; out of state. They buy what they will sell and ship in from out of the state. So in essence; no local businesses will benefit from their needed supplies to operate here. In the restaurant example'; no local produce, no local meats, no local paper products, no local seafood, etc., etc., etc. Those monies are not kept here; where they would eventually trickle down to local economy.

From there it's the domino effect.

Now remember, I am a Freedomist and a Capitalist! Spend your money when and where you want; but don't ever believe it doesn't matter where you do.

Still an American Company(Arkansas no doubt) that DOES buy and sell a **** TON
    of American Products.

They've even pledged to do more locally. I broke this down a while back.
It was something like 2.6 million per store.

Wal-mart is also building these mini-stores that will basically be
Grocery stores that will work with locals.

It's part of their new initiative backed by Mike Rowe.

They employ people, they buy American too....yet we still can't get behind them.

You don't HAVE to buy Made in China in Wal-Mart just b/c it's on the shelf.

Also/ Wal-mart has REDUCED it's restrictions to allow for local farmers
to get their products in Wal-Mart.

Yet I know a few of these local farmers/business folks(personally) who grow foods
and some who make boudin and sausages etc, that simply WON'T DO IT

    ....b/c Wal-Mart....

They can't let go of the grudge.
