Many in the oil industry still make more than I ever did in the Marines. I went to war for your industry and got paid chump change. I do not ever recall getting a military discount at the pump. It is hard to feel sorry for an industry that has stepped on my neck for so long.
Are you saying that the workers make the decisions for the industry? I thought there were rich executives involved.
You will have to take a break from you hayride. Some of us never had a hayride, so count your blessings. it is not the consumers fault that oil workers spent all their money and did not save for times like this.
You know how there are people that are ignorant of LEO and think they know LEO work better than them? Yeah, you're that guy right now.
Yes, I have known oil workers who have make a lot of money, but failed to save enough!
This is where you hit the like button.Unless you are retired or you live off "the man" I cannot see how you think low oil prices are "good thing". Anyone who actually has a job and lives in south Louisiana and is HAPPY about low oil prices have blinders on to how the world works no matter what industry you work in. Guess what buddy if you HAVE A JOB it will affect you too, it might just take a little longer.
Oh your a carpenter, who do you think is paying you to build that house.
Oh your a butcher, well 50% of your clientele are no longer buying T-bones and Ribeyes they are on Ramen and Campbell's, get ready for a layoff.
Oh your a teller at a bank, well your bosses / owners are not getting that oilfield money coming in to invest and make interest to pay YOUR salary. Get ready for a layoff.
Oh your a doctor, nurse or dentist, not many people are going to come in for those elective procedures. Get ready for a layoff.
I could go on.
You gripe about the roads (yes I do too and they are ridiculous) and other state infrastructures but do you realized the amount of money that comes into the state coffers from the oil industry that supports those programs? If the money doesn't come in from oil taxes then they are just going to tax you and me more out of our check for the shortfall.
Gas is 1.99/gal and everyone cheers but they don't bat an eye at $5/gal of milk or that 20oz bottle of WATER you just bought at the gas station and paid $10-11 DOLLARS/GAL FOR WATER!!!!!! Do the math!
If you think low oil / gas in south Louisiana is a good thing. Push real hard behind your shoulders and listen for the POP!
So some in the oil industry suffer a bit? Why?
Creating new industry in Louisiana would be fantastic, but individually having financial diversity is what I find is more important for individuals and their families. Gas prices will fluctuate. They may go back up in a week or a year, and after that at some point they will drop again. People in the oil field should prepare for the highs and lows of oil prices, it is the nature of the industry.
At less than half the wages and benefits of the Big 3 auto company's. So let's cut oil and gas workers pay and benefits by more than half and all will be even. If it's good for one industry it would be just as good for another.Pretty sure tundras are made in Alabama with more US components than GM truck.

As for all the "evil" oil company comments, I'm pretty sure not many of you would be in a business that only allowed you an 7-10% profit margin on whatever product you made or sold. They may have a "billion dollar year" but a billion dollars is a whole lot different if it took 500billion to make it vs 1 billion.
I'm sorry if your at a point where a few bucks at the pump ends your suffering. Let me know when it's my turn again. ThanksBecause it's their turn.
