The first few times I went to Jims, I got bads service. However, I found a salesperson that I new from school and since then I have had great service. I think they tend to get frustrated with people coming in and either acting like they know everything or asking an hour's worth of questions and then not buying anything. Their prices are high. I mostly look for deals on used guns or go in if I need something i can't find anywhere else. Honestly, their service seems to be improving.

Side note: I hear the economy is making Jim willing to negotiate on some of those prices if you ask and are not acting like a dick.

Also, Hebert's is just as bad/good as Jim's.

    Warning Thread Detour:

Haha, Wait until after Thursday night! After the Pretender says the only way to fix the economy is to spend more money we don't have; Jim may be paying you to buy a gun by Friday!

I say we all meet at Jim's this Saturday and we gone in there to reek havoc. Things we can do:

    1. Bring kids and let them run around the store.
    2. Ask to see every gun behind the counter.
    3. Ask the stupidest questions about the guns behind the counter.
    4. Answer your cell phone and hold a conversation while salesperson is waiting on you.
    5. Fill up a cart full of items and take them to the register.
    6. Act like you forgot your wallet in the truck after they ring you up and go get it, but never come back in.

I thought y'all were going to do that with Hebert's?
    :eh:

After this thread I was reminded that I had an 870 build that I needed to finish. So went on over there and braced myself for the worst. I was pleasantly surprised of how enjoyable it was today. None of the younger guys there trying to push "this badass SBR" on me, but dealt with a very nice guy (mid 30's) who took the time to listen to what I wanted to do and suggested a cheaper alternative to what I had already picked out. While it hasn't changed my opinion on them totally, it definitely made me a believer during school hours. :)

You know guys i've been listening to and reading complaints about Jim's Firearms for years and years and I finally have to throw in my two cents. I was a regular customer of Jim's way back in the day when it was a small store on the opposite side of Siegan Lane. I shoppped there because I know Jim and he is a genuinely "good" guy, actually a "great" guy. Also my father and Jim's father were friends and I admired Jim's dad as much as my own. Anyone of you who has had the priviage of meeting Mac probably feels the same. I really feel proud to support my local businesses when more and more of us are sacrificing our own community to save a few bucks by shopping online. Unfortunatley time and time again, to my dismay, I experienced the same horrible service as most of you have. If I have to endure the condescending and "your wasting my time" attitude then it better come with reasonable prices. (not happening) I understand that in the retail business, especially the nature of Jim's business, the sales people have to deal with a combination of "wingnuts" and absolute "tools" but there is no excuse for the way this business makes us feel when we're walking out the door wishing we had sold our soul to the devil and gone to Cabelas. I finally realized what a hypocrite i was to slam Jim's one day and then shop there the next when i needed something in a hurry. Now i visit Jim's maybe twice a year to look only, and LOOK is all I do. When they finally ask if i need help I tell them that I'm "JUST LOOKING" and that is all that I do. Let me remind all of you that WE determine the success or failure of our beloved small local gun shops. What bothers me the most is that Jim is very involved in the local gun buying community and most definitely reads these complaints but apparently he feels that his customers opinions are meaningless and his store is above being judged. I urge all of you to stop complaining, it isn't accomplishing anything, and stop shopping at Jim's or quit complaining and keep shopping there. These days I look at Jim's or any of the other big box stores and then when I'm ready to buy I go see Pat at Accurate Firearms or Hutchinson's in Pineville for those of you north of BR. Sorry about the rant but after 10 years the complaining is just a waste of our precious time. Good night everybody.

Wow man, if you know this guy as well as you say, you might want to tell him to log in here and read these reviews. If I knew the guy at all, I would.:dunno:

Okay... its all clear to me now. ;)

    .

    Staggering, isn't it?

Been to Jim's once in my lifetime, service was fine. Don't know a thing about the intricacies of his business, but after reading these posts, I'm on his side.

I need to review the Louisiana truancy laws.
