My girlfriend and some of her work friends went camping in Mississippi at Flint Creek a few weekends ago. They were relaxing by the creek behind their cabin with some fishing poles in the water. A wildlife and fisheries agent strolled on by and gave the four with poles in the water tickets for no licenses.

My girlfriend found out today that all four tickets were for $440 each. WTF? They did not even have bait. They had no intention of catching fish. If she is made to pay this ticket I will surely not be spending money in Mississippi ever again.

I have a pole with a line in the water and I'm not catching fish? What do you want the LEO to think?

As far as the ticket price, well they make them that high to discourage poaching and whatnot. :dunno:

Gimme a break. They had fishing poles in the water but were not fishing ? There has got to be a sci-fi forum somewhere that you could try to sell that to.

That doesn't sound right according to...
SEC. 49-7-21. License certificates; hunting, trapping or fishing without license prohibited; penalties

    (5) Any nonresident who fishes without the required license is guilty of a misdemeanor and upon conviction shall be fined in an amount not less than One Hundred Dollars ($100.00) nor more than Two Hundred Fifty Dollars ($250.00) for the first offense. For the second or any subsequent offense a nonresident shall be fined in an amount not less than Two Hundred Fifty Dollars ($250.00) nor more than Five Hundred Dollars ($500.00) and that nonresident shall also be assessed by the court an administrative fee as prescribed under subsection (6) of this section.

but that's just what popped up when I googled.

Maybe it was for $440 total? $100 plus $10 processing fee?

Not everyone is boned up on exactly how fishing works, therefore, Mr. WF guy had no idea if the women-folk were just...incompetent on how to fish or whatnot. I still gotta say, IMO, righteous tickets.

Four women were not trying to take hooks out of slimey fish. They had no bait. Who here fishes without bait? They had lines with only hooks.

I've caught fish on just a hook...

Regardless, what were they doing with fishing poles in the water if they weren't fishing? I mean, they made a foolish mistake but you can't fault the agent for it.

For me personally, I find there is nothing more relaxing than taking my Browning BAR to one of the local WMAs in April, climbing a tree in the woods, and aiming at deer as they pass by. With an unloaded gun, of course. :nono:

 Come on man. No offense, but if you have a fishing pole in the water, bait or no bait they will burn you if you don't have a fishing license. That's just the way it is. :dunno:

Why would they have poles in the water with no bait? I would still call that fishing.......not very smart fishing, but still fishing.

who the hell puts lines in the water with no intention of catching fish?

This has been a very educational thread. I now know that it is against the law in Mississippi to fish without a license even if you are doing it really badly!!

    Thanks for the grins OP.
