Tom has agreed to return to Louisiana this winter for another knife/combatives seminar. We have 12 signed already so if you'd like to attend sign up ASAP. The last class filled and had a waiting list so do not delay.

    FRIDAY 6:30pm-9pm – EMPTY HANDS COUNTERS & FOLLOW-UPS
This course presents the framework of counter-attacking and a simple formula
(4 Themes) to help you get the most out of the tools and techniques you already have.

SATURDAY 10am-4pm – EMPTY HANDS KNIFE DEFENSE
This course presents how to prioritize your Empty Hands Knife Defense strategy covering the phases of Protection,

Our second Louisiana AMOK! seminar went very well. We had 20 men training, eight of whom drove in from Texas and Florida. For some of us this was our third time training together and it was super to see the progress that has been made. Sotis, as usual, did a masterful job articulating and demonstrating his “life saving technology”.
One of the beautiful things about AMOK! is that you will leave a better fighter no mater what skill level you come with. Another major plus is that the system flows seamlessly from knife, to empty hand and pistol.
To the soldiers, marines and police who attended you have our utmost respect and gratitude. To the two soldiers who will be deploying in January, we will not neglect to pray for you both.

    Best regards,
    Bill Hickman

    Amok! In Houma

First off I would like to say thanks to the Hickman Training Group for hosting Tom Sotis and to Master Domangue and Mister Click of Houma Tang Soo Do for providing the facility that we were able to train in. Without them this event wouldn't have been possible!
If you appreciate a no non-sense approach to self-defense, then AMOK! is the only way! Tom's ability to deliver the material in a manner that can be understood and applied by most nearly surpasses his skill with the blade. Nearly! He was as grateful to us for attending and having the desire to learn as we were for his willingness to do so! If you've ever attended a class with an instructor that seems concerned that you are out to take his job because you have questions, then Tom will be a breath of fresh air.
As for the training itself, unsurpassed! If you're wandering why the knife, then this class is for you! If you like getting a trumendous value for your training dollar, then this is definitely the class for you! I'll see you at the next training event!

This was my second AMOK! seminar and I had an awesome time!

The first day was "Empty Hands Knife Defense" and it was unreal how much information Tom covered. A lot of the skills learned in "Accessing While Under Attack" from the last seminar were utilized as far as parrying and blocks were concerned. The emphasis one these was to protect yourself from the various attacks then applying damage to the bad guy. From there we transitioned to grabs and from there to disarms. Tom stressed and demonstrated that you're not going to successfully get a disarm from a fully aware assailant so some tenderization is necessary before the disarm can be accomplished. A very interesting part of the class I enjoyed was that for every skill Tom showed us, he showed us the counter for it.

The second day was "Edged Weapons Combat 2", a build from the EWC 1 class from the last seminar. In standard AMOK! fashion we started off dueling two at a time in front of the class. We then transitioned to specific drills going over more complex striking than in the EWC 1 class. We incorporated single attacks, combos, and show/tell fakes. We did different drills for each and worked them in varying levels of opposition. We finished up the day with another couple of rounds of dueling.

There was also much discussion about how the drills and and skills we went over should be applied to the different themes of training ie: mutual vs. oppositional. Tom made sure to give us specific drills that could be done at home by ourselves or with a partner. This past weekend was not only physically but mentally demanding. Tom explains why the AMOK! system is the way it is and it really helps in understanding the skills.

A big thanks to Bill for organizing the class and to his family for hosting us Saturday night! I always enjoy training with you and your boys! I will certainly never hesitate to receive training from Tom Sotis.
