    I had a AC guy tell me that in a year or so, R22 will not be available anymore...anyone have any knowledge of this? Will their be some type of similar replacement available or made?

    They've already done so. It's called 407c.

    The sales and restrictions of R22 is already being pushed hard too as well
    with the requirements of refrigeration type licenses in order to purchase.

    Actually the best drop in replacement is called 421A. It's pressure and temp. Is the closest to 22. I have used it in many units already. But in the long run it is best to replace the whole system. The new refrigerant is 410A and it is what all the new systems use. Only thing bad about it is, it operates at about twice the pressure of R22 so if and when you get a leak you will know about it a lot faster than a 22 system. 9 times out of 10 the leaks develop on the evaporator coil which is the indoor coil.

    All I know, is not a single unit on Fort Polk is using 421A. No one.

    R22, 407c, 134a, 410, 409 etc.

    407c is flammable under certain conditions. Also it is a 3 part blend, which when a leak develops can be unstable, 421a is a two part blend and non flammable.
