See if it slants or not. If it's got a slant it's commercial.

    Wow
A lot of replies all at once
One thing you may want to consider if you’re getting a new tube is the 6 position commercial.. While I’ve never worked with or seen a 6 position mil-spec, it is common with a commercial tube

There isn’t much of a difference between 4 and 6 position. If you shoot a lot it seems better to have the 6 position. It never made much difference to me until I got a 22 upper and was really able to runs a lot of rounds through

Thanks guys for the quick replies!

Tomorrow when I have time I'll take a look. I really need to buy a micrometer... not the first time one would have come in handy.

Like I said, there isn’t much difference between a 4 or 6 position
It never really mattered until I got a Nordic 22lr upper and really began to shoot a lot. Maybe I just got picky about the index
But like I said, there isn’t much difference

Just to add another you thing that may may not like even worse
You can run through a lot of magazines when shooting the 22lr. I got into the habit of looking through the magazine(they’re translucent) to determine round count. Now I use the MagPul’s with the window for 223.
Supposedly the window is a mall ninja thing
For me, it’s a habit thing. I like to get a visual on rounds.

Very cool. Would have never noticed other wise.... I have a commercial one....

Not to mention I use the two holes in civi model that are not in Mil-spec option.

Any benefit to one over the other?

Yeah, I never saw the above infographic either, but it's pretty awesome.

I never knew about the slant on commercial ones. Mine is a mil-spec 6 position.

During the carbine class at VATA a few weeks ago the guy next to me at the very end of the first day quietly swapped his upper for a .22. The instructor was very confused by the sound difference until he realized what happened. Unfortunately he only had I think 2 mags for it. Looks like it would be fun. Shame you can't shoot the entire class with a .22. That would certainly cut the cost of training!
