I think that's the idea (in theory). Arm them enough to fight back and weaken the regime but not enough to win.

According to Al Assad the people he is fighting are radical Islamist from all over the region trying to set up a radical Islamic government, but that would just about be the absolute best reason for us to not send support to the rebels so who knows.

According to Al Assad the people he is fighting are radical Islamist from all over the region trying to set up a radical Islamic government, but that would just about be the absolute best reason for us to not send support to the rebels so who knows.

From what I understand there are dozens of different militias. Our gov't just wants to give weapons to the few that are not extremists. I am sure there is no way those weapons will transfer hands b/w militias without the proper paperwork and background checks (unless they're planning on using the gun show loop-hole). I am sure our government has learned from its mistakes and is not going to arm the bad guys again.
