I just got this email from a fellow in Shreveport. Wanted to share it here for comments. He was saying that his instructor in the concealed carry class he just took told them things that didn't seem right. I asked for specifics, and here's what he sent.

    -----------------

He told us we could not carry into any place that sells alcohol. The way
I read it is that you can carry if it is not allowed to be consumed on
the property. I am also still confused about CCW in restaurants that
    serve alcohol here in Louisiana.

He told us we could now carry at events such as Mardi gras parades.

We were told as long as we were under the roof of our house i.e.
front/back porches, garage/carport it was the same as being inside our
    house.

We were told we could not carry or have a firearm in our boats unless it
    was water foul season.

    ---------------------

I suggested that this fellow contact Sgt. Revis with the info on what the instructor is teaching, and he should also visit Bayoushooter.com to get more accurate info.

    Thoughts?

I am not even going to tell you what I heard from a co-worker who got the CCW course in 3 hours.:eek3:

He was right about this below if he were in Florida.;)

Unfurtunetly not all CCW Instructors are cut with the same scissors

I highly encourage anybody that I meet that has been to a class like the one mentioned by the OP to contact LSP, Instructors like this one deserve for their credentials to be taken away, it's a Public Safety issue that involves each and every one of us who are proud CHP holders

Remember we are all seen as 1 group and will be judged as one as well

He is correct on point #2. You can carry at parades (but cannot carry in a parade).

+100 Tks Pablo. You are correct, Sir. Appreciate you being on this forum. HOWEVER!!! the public is so stupid/dumber than any CCW instructor, that I give the instructor first light! Now, with that said, prove me wrong. If the instructor is not a complete dumbass instructor then we should rely on the class turnout because we have been able to in the past 20 years.

I am the fellow from Shreveport mentioned in the original post.

I contacted Sgt. Revis today about the information I was told during my CCW class and here are his answers:

OK to CCW if no consumption on premise.

    True

    house.

Louisiana is a castle doctrine state our property is ours.

We were told we could not carry or have a firearm in our boats unless it
    was water foul season.

Boat is considered the same as automobile. the exception to this could WMA's as they my have rules/laws about this.

Sgt. Revis was very helpful and very professional too.

Consumption on premesis doesn't matter. If they don't have a "class a -general" license then you can carry.
You can carry AT a parade, just not IN one.

IMO, I am not a lawyer.

I think the bigger surprise is if this is directly from the Grand Poobah of CC (Sgt. Revis); then we are all screwed. Not only can you CC in Hooters, but you can drink a beer too while CCing, as long as you don't go over the silly unfair standard (set for everyone), of .05% BAL.

I know most don't want to rock the boat on this law, but I will say it again. This thread yet again, proves the law is open to too many interpretations.

What I meant to say is you can carry in Thrifty Liqueur, etc because you do not consume on the premise but not in a bar at least that is what I was told by LSP. I hope I am stating this correctly.
