I will be in prairieville and gonzales this weekend and was curious as to what range I should try, we're gonna be shooting AR's and handguns. My parents live close to cabelas(I haven't been to their house since they moved from monroe a year ago) and my dad said there is a range close by that is open to the pubic occasionally, what is the name of this range and will it be open Sunday?

The Ascension range is only open the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of the month.

Precision isn't far, but rifle range is only 25 yards

Only range close by is the Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office range. Only open to the public I believe twice a month and thats on Tuesdays from 2 to 6 PM. Palo Alto is across the river. Don't know what hours or days they are in operation. I'm sure someone on the forum can answer this question.

well, that sucks about the APSO range. i think ill pass on the no AC indoor ranges, if i want to shoot 25 yards indoors i can do it here in the AC. thanks for the input though.

anyone from the evening crew have any suggestions?

You can shoot anything short of a bazooka at the Baker Range.
Last January I was there when RJF was testing their M2 50 cal BMG.
They were shooting 3 or 5 round full auto burst using ball and AP rounds.:D

well, we decided to postpone our road trip for 2 weeks due to the weather. do you have to have a WMA endorsement to shoot at sherburne?

and out of curiosity, why would i need to bring armor to the other indoor range? location? idiots in the range?
