Anyone have a lead with who is running what I always knew as Ben's Creek WMA lease and how to contact them? Looks like we lost another open area to play.

I met an avid turkey hunter from the Isabell area and he was awfully dissapointed in the change. This is my only source on info so far.

I read an article on the LDWF and one other website that explained that the land owner, Weyerhauser Corporation, wanted an increase of the price-per-acre before they would renew the lease contract with the Louisiana DWF. Since the state has been dealing with all kinds of budget cuts, DWF didn't have the extra money to spend. Weyerhauser was not willing to negotiate and the WMA lease contract was allowed to expire in June 2012.

I haven't been able to find any specific information, but based on Weyerhauser's website, they seem to be welcoming hunt clubs to sign long-term hunting leases on many of their properties. I would imagine the Ben's Creek is on the block and waiting for a group to come in and snatch it up.

My club leases from Weyerhauser close to that area. We were told by Weyehauser in April LDWF wasn't renewing the lease. They were talking about dividing it into three or four tracts (leases) and putting it out for bid in may/june '12. Last I hear, one of the big clubs in the area (ten point i think) was trying to get as much as possible. If I hear more at my clubs spring meeting, I'll try and post it.
