Ok let me hear what you think.

I'm looking for a scope to put on two new H&R 444's i just bought. Looking to spend less than $200, but I'm a little flexible.

Looking at 3-9x40 scopes but open to suggestions.

I have a couple of Nikon Prostaff 3-9x40 scopes on 300BLK ARs and like them but wanted to see if there were other options to consider.

Unless you just really want to try something different I would just stick with the prostaff.

The Vortex crossfire or burris fullfield II would be comparable if you wanted to try a different brand.

The Zeiss Terra with their field days promotional mail in rebate wold put you close to you're top end as well.

I picked up a Vortex Diamondback in that price range and I'm not impressed. I also have 3 Nikon Prostaff all 3 are very good at under $250. Also have a Redfield in that price range and it just stinks. Love my Zeiss but that dosnt fit the bill here.

I really love the Nikon Prostaff 5 3.5-14x40 with the BDC. Super clear glass and for the money I don't think you will find a better scope. They can be found for like 237.00.

For an extra $100 what does the Prostaff 5 offer over the Prostaff?
The difference in magnification is not significant for me on a 444 shooting <200 yards.

I killed a deer at 165 yds with my 444 H&R. I used to use a nikon buckmasters II 3-9x40, but I pulled it off and swapped it onto my remington ADL in .223 and put the Remington no-name brand scope on the "primitive" gun. I figured I only use it 2 weeks a year and target shoot the .223 so much more.

But yes that Leupold VX Hog was a really clear scope for the money. I was really liking it the other day when looking through it at academy.

Now-a-days you can't go wrong with NIKON, LEUPOLD, or REDFIELD in the lower-cost options.

Nikon 2-7 on 45-70 ,3-9 serves me well, I also have a 4-12 buckmaster 2 on a dpms lr308,4-12 prostaff on a 7mm-08bolt gun ,4-16 mildot monarch, rem 700sps tactical lite. all are great!!! Just picked up a leoupold pig plex for my sig 556r(7.62x39) great little scope!!! Can't go wrong with either one of them!! For 90% of the shots under 100 yards with a few shots out to 150 yards I would stick with the 1-4 or 2-7, other than that go bigger
