Looking to pick up a bolt action .308 for target shooting/deer hunting. A threaded barrel or a barrel that I can thread is a must. I'll spend up to $1500. Recommendations?

I am doing the same shopping.

I can't decide on a classic wood stock bolt action or DPMS or Rock River "AR10".

In the classic I have been looking at the Savage rifles and 700's.

For up to $1500, Id look at a Remington 5R, you could always hold out for a little more and pick up a used custom build.

    I've got a Savage 10FCP that I would let go. It's a Tack driver. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1354567273.321123.jpg

    I have a Remington 700 AAC in .308
20" threaded bbl with a 1-10 twist so it can stabilize 168's to long ranges and allows use of heavy grain projectiles for subsonic suppressor use. I love it. I put it in an adjustable McMillan A-5 and cerakoted the barreled action, NF 20moa base and Seekins 4x6 rings. I highly recommend it.
My next upgrades are Timney trigger an Bushnell HDMR H59

Above is almost exactly what I would suggest. Same gun, which a sponsor has FS http://www.bayoushooter.com/forums/...readed-barrel-670&highlight=Remington+700+AAC

Shoot the 175 SMK or 155 Scenars for longer distance targets.

Change the stock out (SENTINEL, McMillan, Manners, XLR, Rock Solid, AX, AICS) whichever best fits you, sell the factory stock. Buy a 20 MOA one peice rail and 4x4 screw Seekins rings (6 screw limits you too much on sliding the scope for proper eye relief). Back the factory trigger down and save up for a nice scope. Once you can out shoot the above set up you already have all the basic parts needed to then turn it into a custom build with a quality aftermarket barrel.

Depending on which stock you go with you may or may not need bottom metal. If you do I prefer Surgeon DBM.
