In the market to maybe give this gun another try. anyone have one that can vouch for it over time? interwebs are full of love it/hate it type reliability posts, but I always really liked this lil gun. It seems like the online reviews are 50/50 between "5,000 rounds and no issues" vs "a failure every 50rds". Any owners here that can give an unbiased review for my shopping infotainment?

now that they can be had for ~700 instead of 1100 is what got my attention.

    I have seen 9mm and 40 S&W offerings,check out budsgunshop.com or others.
I have owned the Defender in 45 ACP With NO issues, and have had 3 and sold to RECYCLE the money for other pistols.
I give it a thumbs up!

I owned one and carried one for 4+ years, probably put 3000 rounds through it in that time without one malfunction. Only problem I had was it tended to hit me in the forehead with ejected cases every now and then, a little reshaping of the ejector solved that.
That said a guy I know bought one and had feed issues. He took it to a jack leg gunsmith who butchered it then tries to send it back to Colt. Colt sends it back saying sorry you should have sent it to us first.
I sold mine for no other reason than I wanted the extra capacity of a G-19 for carry. It was a sweet gun.

    Howdy,

Have both a Defender and an Officer's model.
Other than being a bit harder to take down than their full size brethren, no real issues to state.
Thousands of rounds downrange and the most limiting factor is my ability to shoot.
I say get it and be happy.

    Oh, and one more thing....
My Officer's model did manage to rust after Katrina carrying.
Nothing a bit of care and some steel wool couldn't fix...
Both guns are Colt MFG and both are stainless.

I have an Officer and a New Agent (among others); both have been trouble free.
Officer in stainless and Agent is a blued TALO edition, both in .45.
Aluminum frame on the Agent makes carry much easier.
Whatever ammo you decide on, try it extensively to make sure it's a good match.

I have one in .45 ACP great gun, mine got only about 500 rounds thru it but it has been 100% reliable, but if going to do it again I will get a 1911 with at least 4" barrel.
