I'm thinking of picking up an ESEE Izula and was wondering if there's any others I should look at.

    Requirements
    1. Blade under 3", can't have anything larger and have it at work.
    2. Fixed blade
    3. Sheath that can take a Tek-Lok for horizontal carry
    4. Skeleton handle, so I can para wrap some firesteel and magnesium inside it (legitimate concern when you go places w/o radio and cell service in -30 degree weather). Rather not carry this separate as it'll just get lost.

Can't go wrong with Izula....I have two, one with micarta handle & one wrapped with paracord.
Another model to consider could be the 3MIL-S with sharpened back edge --> http://www.eseeknives.com/clip_point.htm

I bought all of these (as well as my latest Maxpedition accessories) via hrknives.com.

I used an izula exclusively during gator season and it held up really really well .. I skinned or butchered at least 5 gators all over 6 or 7 feet with it..

There were two of us or I would have used to for everything but he was better at it.. but the knife held up well and I sharpened it only once..

I actually got the Izula the other day. Got a tech lock and have been carrying it horizontally, I forget it's there and have more room in my pockets now.

Check out bark river knife and tool they have some unmatchable fixed blades, also there are some great steels in the spyderco mules that you can scale yourself, no skeleton handle though.
