Cracked windshield repair?

Today I noticed I have a small crack in my windshield that is starting to run. Can anyone recommend a place/person to stop this crack in the Baton Rouge or Prairieville area? Years ago a guy simply took a Dremel, drilled a small hole a few millimeters ahead of the crack, placed a tack in the hole and tapped it with a spoon. Im looking for something like that.
