They're just being proactive and buying before the price increase when Obama gets reelected in the fall

    Considering just the .223 aspect:
If you average soldier overseas carries 8 fully loaded 30 round mags for his M16/M4 he's carrying 240 rounds. With 175 million rounds they could arm 729,166 men in the same manner.

The DHS has 216,000 employees and ICE has only 20,546. Total that's 236,546 employees. Assuming every employee is a field agent, both these agencies could fully arm them 3 times over.

I can't imagine why these agencies would need such a massive amount of ammunition.

Well, I can, but the reason why isn't good for any of us.

At least this could explain why .40 and .223 prices have been so high lately.

An Air Force deployed loadout is 210 rounds. IDK about the other branches, however. But, no I agree that it probably isn't good for any of us.

A five year contract at 90M per year does not sound as bad a 450M at once.
At the number of rounds per man quoted above I could arm many men with handgun rounds.

They qual each quarter - 4x's a year. 50 rd course and I'm sure they shoot more than once a quarter and other drills. Do the math.

This assumes they are using the HST for training ammunition as well as duty use.

    That, I highly doubt
    .

They do...my office is next to the fed ranges in Slidell....the garbage cans are full of the boxes. Only the local LEO's use practice ammo on the ranges.
