Fill the bags with sand or pea gravel. TyRap closed. Fold the neck over on itself and TyRap again. You now have bags for any bench work you may do.

Three empty Lawrence shot bags and a few TyRaps. First to PM me with your address gets it postage paid free gratis no charge GI.

I'll have a few more bags after my next 12ga reloading session. Stay tuned.

    What is a shot bag?
Bag that shotgun shot comes in.
A 25 pound bag of lead shot makes about 350 shotshells. Since I go through nearly two cases a month at 250 shells per case so I'll be emptying more bags as time goes on. These bags are just too handy to dump in the landfill. Thought I'd pass them on.

Fill 'em with rice . No sand or gravel . :nono:
Personally I like pea gravel. Soft enough to mold but firm enough to hold the gun steady. For a rear rest I need to give sand a try. Need something a touch firmer. I've heard of people using rice but water and rice doesn't mix unless there's red beans involved.

Oh, the winner is DMiculek of Bayou Bullets fame. Thanks guys.

    cat litter works for me
Thats a thought. But get it wet and it will clump.

There was one shot company I was using a while back. It came from Peruvian mines. The bag was cloth with an inner plastic liner. Guess to protect the shot from the weather during transport. Kinda wish I hadn't thrown those away. Those would have been perfect for rice or gritty kitty litter.

I do the same thing with my old pants legs on my blue jeans once the hole develops in the knee or thigh area. I cut from about the knee down off. Turn inside out. Have my mom sew the knee area closed. Turn it back inside out so the seam is now on the inside. Fill with sand and Ty-Wrap. Works great. The sand does make them heavy to handle but it settles better than anything else I have used. I got her to do about 20 or so last time so I have a few extras that I have given to friends here and there.

Uh, OK. Think that Home Depot sand will do just fine for my application. Guess I'm not anal enough for benchrest competition. Geez. Mail ordering sand ... grumble ... grumble.

I'm not saying do what the guy in the article does. I just found it interesting he went through all that. I guess when 1/4MOA isn't cutting it you look at every possible detail.

I'm not sure I would want to lug around a 20 lb rear bag. Would not be good for field use. I have heard of using airsosft BB's as they are light & water doesn't saturate them. Plastic bag is one solution.

I saw one guy on another site use a pencil case. I haven't seen any that seem large enough.

    I wouldn't pay for sand & shipping either. I'm a cheapskate & own a shovel.

We use inner tubes from the rear wheels of motorcycles. They are big enough and will hold plenty of sand/rice/birdseed/whatever you want, can get wet and since my son works at the H.D. shop here in town we have an unlimited supply. Best of all, I don't have to buy a shotgun reloader and cut my jeans up to make them. Oh, I get the sand from area construction sites.
