I could go on about how advanced the hospital is, involving no paper charts, all electronic, etc. and serving Mahi Mahi with mango sauce and the like in the cafeteria and the gourmet coffee shop and Subway there, or how I like the roads, or how cheap it is here, living in a good area for $385/mo, but really, we all just want big, pretty pictures, so I took these while out hiking my property. To me, this is beautiful. Some people like desert, some swamp, I like this>

I want to know where this facility is too.

And what computer system they are using.

Hospital IT is what I've been doing for 12 years now. None of the 3 hospitals I help support serve Mahi Mahi!

We use EPIC. We literally DO NOT HAVE PAPER. It's unreal. Physicians directly enter all orders, or ask you to (rare). All imaging, EKG, everything is immediately wifi linked to the computer system, etc. Second most electronically integrated hospital system in the US. The only paper we have are consents, which are scanned into the system. NWA.

That's great, man. I'm glad you're happy up there. I worked for a few years with a company that developed an ER patient management system. It really does help out tremendously with how efficient the hospital can be. Huge difference from pen and paper.

EPIC is the Big Dog in hospital information systems.
And by far the most expensive. Also not in the rural market.

We work with a vendor is real big in the physician practice market, but just acquired a rural hospital system and a large hospital system.
They claim they will going head to head with EPIC (large hospital market) and CPSI (rural hospital market) with pricing that will blow the competition away.

Paperless is the goal for all healthcare systems, but it's been hard to sell to providers, especially older doctors.
It's also very expensive to acquire the technology to get there.

Yes, the fully optioned EC-130 parked outside was my first clue that this system was solvent. The second was the gourmet coffee shop and subway restaurant located in the cafeteria, along with the quip from the Subway worker that the gourmet chef employed by the hospital gives them stiff competition from the main cafeteria. The literally 100% paperless system backed that up. Even the MAR is electronic. Everything scans. Even though the town is 400% smaller than Shreveport, I feel like I walked out of the dark ages. To be honest, it's rather daunting. Patient care is the same, and I'm solid there, but EPIC is...EPIC. It will take me a minute to master that thing! I'm used to meditech, lol!

The best and nicest thing, though? How people there are TREATED. I saw the president of the hospital in the cafeteria the other day. He stood in line. He got the same food. He paid with his debit card. Literally the only CLUE that he was any different from the house-keeping staff was his badge and suit. The MD's here are polite, treat the techs with the same respect they treat each other. Listen to what the nurses have to say. Actively ask for our opinions about patient conditions. It's unreal. The entire place just bleeds positive energy.

Haha, I'm anxious, too. Give me a minute. I want to live here for at least a year before I decide 100% on that. I love it right now, but I want to make sure this isn't just a honeymoon phase.
