Left an eotech on an ar for maybe 1 year without use. Batterys maybe 2 yrs old at most.

Come back to it today, no power. Open up battery compartment and there is a white greasy film inside the battery compartment. Two rubber grommet and a metal bar come out with the batteries.

Clean it all up (although not positive grommets installed the proper order) with new battery and no sign of life from the eotech any suggestions

pull out everything you can....clean corrosion with something <dr pepper works good...make sure you rinse & dry afterwords>

Then try to find a schematic online so you can reassemble correctly.

All that fails, it's time to give eotech a call and get advice from the ppl that make 'em.

Assuming it's a 552 type with AA batteries: I had the same problem. The metal bar goes across the bottom of the battery box and connects the ends of the two batteries. The rubber grommets are actually a rubber support for a metal spring on the inside of the grommet (kind of like the rubber insert on the inside of an AR15 extractor spring, but on the outside). The rubber/spring goes between the bar and the battery. You may have to stretch the springs slightly to make sure the ends contact both the bar on one side and the battery on the other side. Wouldn't hurt to clean off the ends of the springs either. You might have some corrosion that's preventing contact. The rubber grommets are supposed to stay inside the battery box, and are slightly sticky on one side, to make it adhere to the bar. Sounds like everything is loose and it might very well be just an alignment problem with all the parts. Failing everything else, EOtech has a replacement battery box available on their web site.

L3 Has dynamite service. If you can't fix it just get an RMA # from them and send it back. They will fix it or exchange it for you. What kind of batteries were you using?

It may be best for you to see about the new battery box anyway. I don't know if it applies to this particular model, but there was some revisions made to correct similar issues in other versions that used CR123's. Not only would it solve the problem, it'd give you peace of mind about it never happening again.

Like others said, I've never heard anything but positive reports about L3's service.
