I was escorted out of Willis-Knighton North Hospital today by 3 officers. They were polite, professional and apologetic!

My wife and I had been up there to see her mom who is undergoing rehab from a stroke she had last week and we were up there bringing her some clothes and visiting. We hadn't been there very long when I left my bag and gun in the room and wheeled out in the hall looking for a bathroom. In the hall I ran into an officer and asked him if he knew where the restrooms were and he replied that he didn't and I jokingly asked "Well what good are ya?" ;) He kinda laughed said "I sure don't mean to be intrusive here, we had a report of a gentleman in a wheelchair in a green shirt with a gun in a bag, would that be you sir?" I replied yes sir, it's in my bag in my mother-in-laws room right there..." He said "Well our policy, do you have a permit and everything?" Me "Yes sir, I do."
NOTE: I was Open Carrying and I do have a permit but as of last month, it is no longer valid for Concealed Carry for me in LA but I was legal a now wasn't the time for picking nits.
The officer continued: "We would appreciate it if you would take it out to your vehicle." Me: "OK." End of story!

Well, not quite but that was the meat of it! The officer I met 1st was VERY apologetic for everything and saw to it that they gave me a ride to my car and loaded my wheelchair in it for me. They did ask my name, weight and age but never asked for my ID and I gave them the info without question. A recording of the events above is right here: http://herohog.com/audio/20110904OCStop.mp3

The Shreveport PD was polite, professional and handled this very well im my view. I have no complaints.

I went in for a back check before some injections, and in the middle of the exam she asked me to bend backwards, I was still carrying my G27 in the small of my back then and I said, wait, I have to take out my gun.. to do this correctly.. she was OK, and said never had that happen before.. I said I have.. lol.. never had any trouble.. and they were definitely anti ccw.

Like all hospitals, we are firearm no carry zones per federal law. Sounds like they politely enforced the law at no cost to yourself.

+1 on the citation. When my girl was pregnant with our daughter I carried in the hospital about twice a month and never saw any signs anywhere. And I was specifically looking for them.

Sorry, state law in la, as informed when I got my ccw, and federal law as applies to all va hospitals.

Edit: wk is privately owned. They can have their policy. I reviewed state law and legally you can carry in la. In tx, 30.06 prohibits, as I understand it. At the va, its a no go as its a fed. Owned hospital.

I could be wrong, but I believe you were misinformed by your CCW instructor about LA law in hospitals. Unsure about federal law and VA hospitals. Did your instructor give you the cited law?

I want to say its a state law regarding state funded hospitals.

My wife was in Tulane Hosp for tests. I discovered that the clinic entrance doesn't have any signs but the hospital entrance does. Oops... no harm, no foul though.

I was under the impression that signs posted were per hospital policy, that there were no laws against carrying, just a hospital thing. And if refusing to leave after being asked you can be charged with trespassing, remaining after, etc etc. Someone more knowledgable will be able to chime in.

I work security for BR General. Our hospitals don't have any gun buster signs posted anywhere but we do have a policy forbiding weapons in our hospitals. Inside your car in the parking lots is fine. Just leave them in the car when you come in. In the past, when we are told that someone has a gun we will make contact, inform them of the policy and ask them to secure the gun in their car. We've had patients come in with guns but no car and I've secured the gun in our security office safe until they are discharged. I handled it just like any other personal valuable we pickup from patients. I've never had a problem with anyone. If someone is planning on doing something wrong like shooting up his ex-wife and her new boyfriend at Midcity we have a whole different problem. It's unlikly that we will even know about the gun until the shooting starts. Then it becomes a police problem.

This was not a State or VA hospital. Also, no signs posted ANYWHERE. The cop complained about it too. He said if they posted the sign then he and his guys wouldn't be called down for "this kind of crud" every time someone legally carried a gun in not having any indication that it was against hospital policy.

When I asked the head of the War Vets Home in Jackson, La about the sign at the entrance below is with he sent me.

Good way to have a back injury if you fall back and have any hard object over your spine.

    Just misinfo...if there's no sign I carry

LSU Hospitals here don't have signs...

I went thru recent knee replacement surgery ( in a private hospital ) with my 23 next to me for a week. ( not in surgery ) The nurses aske everytime they moved my BOB...what ya got in here ?? Whos 's gonna think a grumpy old man has a GUN in his stuff ??

I just laughed and said my stuff...it was in a zipperd side compartment in a steel lock box. Wasn't illegal but who needs problems in between dilaudid shots ...and I'll be dam, he was on pain meds and didn't even shoot up the hospital.

Don't get me started on the pain meds argument...

I think it is better with no sign, visitors carrying concealed aren't impeded. I'm sure they are aware of that and don't mind. Also, the chicken in the cafeteria is awesome.
Most OC/CC groups don't want the signs up because once they go up, that's it. Otherwise, you can at least CC until they discover it and ask you to leave. That is why I didn't do what the cop wanted and ask the facility manager to post the gun busters sign.

What didja think of the recording quality of my little MP3 player? I used it again today to catch Comcast screwing their customers! <evil laugh>
