Can anyone give me a "Readers' Digest" explanation of the 4 generations of Glocks? I've been into guns (especially handguns) for years, but just recently acquired Glocks. I have one each 17, 21, 22, 23 and 30. The only noticeable version difference is the accessory rail.

Technically there are more than 4 generations.

Gen 1 - referred to as the pebble grip:

Gen 2 - Glock changed the grip up a little on this one:

Gen 2.5 - (actually Gen 3) Glock changed the grip, no light rail and some were a 3 pin design:

Gen 3 - (actually Gen 4) Glock added the light rail to the front (some were 3 pin, some were 2 pin).

Gen 3 RTF 1 - (actually Gen 5) Added the rough texture to the frame:

Gen 3 RTF 2 - (actually Gen 6) Added "fish gills" to the slide:

    Gen 3 - 1913 - (actually Gen 7) Glock made some with a model 1913 light rail:

Gen 4 (actually Gen 8) current production:

yup, the finger grooves don't fit like they need to and I've had the famous "Glock knuckle" since the mid 90's now...

At times, I've wondered if small-ish hands were a curse.

I'm starting to believe that at times, they're a blessing.

Can't bring yourself to grind them off? (I know I couldn't, if they were a problem for me.)

I'm sure you've tried the old Dremel modification on the trigger guard.

I, too, prefer the Gen 2 for EDC (and for the "clone" that serves as my range gun). I ground out a sizable "scallop" on the bottom of the trigger guards to accommodate the knuckle of my middle finger. This doesn't work for everybody, for it sure eliminated my "Glock knuckle."

I've got plenty of Gen 3's that have undergone the "groovectomy" and trigger guard scallop. My main 19 has been done like that, but I still like the Gen 2's...
