I know shooters are loading this round, and am looking for suggestions on load data Hodgdon's only lists data for HDY XTP which using WST powder comes in way below Major. Lyman's list's 200grn as a 10MM load. Other sites I've read about this advise not loading 200grn in .40S&W as you will (not may) will break your gun. I certainly do not want to experience that end result.

Being a novice hand loader I'd appreciate any suggestion or advice.

fyi I currently have on hand Winchester WSF, WST and Hodgdon HP38 powder.

    Thanks for any assistance.

The only powder my Lyman book shows is 231 which is the same as HP-38
it shows the RCBS 200Gr cast SWC using
    4.5 grains @ 897 fps 19,500 C.U.P.
    5.0 grains @ 964 fps 21,800 C.U.P.

Myself I use Power Pistol & Blue Dot

I load 200's with Ramshot competition. It's around 4 grains of powder out of a G24 to make major. Can't remember the exact. Plenty of people shoot 200's. As long as you find the right load it's fine. Go to brianenos.com in their reloading section and I'm sure you'll find plenty of other loads for the 200's.

Thanks. I will check on brianenos, I also came across the .40 S&w IPSC Loads List composed by Jeff Maass. Seems like a lot of good information in that.

You won't find better sources for 40 major loads. You can typically find someone using the exact same barrel/gun as you as well. Just make sure to Chrono on your gun and find several people using similar loads before going with the first one you read.
