Hello all, I am in need of some advice with reloading some bullets and powder I picked up for my ruger 9mm P89. I have some 124gr LRN bayou bullets and IMR SR 7625 powder. I've searched thru my Speer #10 and #14, hornady 8th, and a complete reloading manual for the 9mm Luger by load book. I cannot find any load data for this combo of bullet and powder, I've even gone to several on-line resources with no luck. The info I did see in my books is a little confusing, as far as bullet seat depth, some put he case above the top ridge on the bullet and others in the center groove. I did make a dummy round and seated the bullet to 1.125" which is at the top of the ridge on the bullet. I cycled the round thru my pistol several times, cycles perfectly with no flaws. I am vaguely thinking of starting at 3.7-4.0 gr of powder and trying like 5 rounds to see how they preform. I do not have a chrono so judging velocity is out. The only way I can check is by case inspection and bullet grouping. If anyone has some info on this setup for powder/bullet combo I could really use some help. Thank you

I do not re-load 9mm but I did find load data on the IMR site:
    http://www.imrpowder.com/pdf/IMR_handgun.pdf

Not sure if it helps, but it might provide a starting point for you. I was able to find 124 grain with your powder in the table. Although with so many variables it may not exactly match your set-up.

Thank you, I did see that, however it is for a fmj round, kind of frustrating when you step out of your norm and get different powder and bullets that your not used to reloading. I did load and fire 5 at 4gr and 5 more at 4.3gr, no pressure signs and functioned good, not to accurate with the 4gr load. I may if I end up not liking this powder to give my plants some fertilizer lol.

Invest in a chronograph to know for sure, worth the expense and time.

Ivan, I am like you, I have been using strickly FMJ bullets. I bought some copper plated lead (115 grain) and after talking to some of the old time reloaders, I loaded using the low end of the call out for FMJ. Say for instance, you would normally load a 115 grain FMJ between 3.5 and 4.5 grains of Win 231. Start out low (3.5) and try them. Up the amount if you have to get correct feed and ejection. Same with the lead bullets, start out on the low side 3.5 and see what you get. Mine worked fine on the low side of the measurement.

Velocity will be higher with the Bayou Bullet than with the listed fmj.
I use 7625 with 115gr Ranier plated bullets and have always had good luck with it. Bayou bullets will be used when the Raniers run out.

Thanks everyone, I know a chrono is worth every penny, just never invested in one yet. I'm really used to loading fmj and plated bullets, pure lead is a whole new cheaper way to go IMO. Trying it out, so far it's working ok, still need to adjust seating depth, and charge amount.

Ok, I have great news!!! I finally was able to go shoot today. I loaded up 60 rounds. Started with 3 gr and went up in incriminates of .2gr up to a total of 4 g. Found out that my pistol hates 3 gr - 3.6 gr. would not cycle at all. 3.8 cycled ok but the spent shell just dropped at my feet. At 4 gr the pistol cycled perfectly and the spent shells ejected like a normal round. Freaking awesome. Without having a chrono I think I may stop at 4 gr. I may try 4-4.1 or 4.2 I'm not sure, I do like the bullet grouping at 4 gr and again it did function perfectly. Also no pressure signs at all that I could tell. Kind of stoked, never played with reloading like this before, I've always been able to look in my books and get a recipe that works great, not in this case. Just wanted to give an update. Again thank y'all for your advice and input much appreciated.
