I just caught this in a CAST NET in one of the LSU Lakes... Casted in the same area where I pulled in a 3lb bass the day before.

It looks like some type of carp to me, maybe? If so, what kind?

I'm no expert fisherman, but it definitely amazed me to catch this thing.

It was about 33" long, 6-7" "thick", and 8-9" tall... Hard to get measurements on a fish flopping around this much, so I used a cigarette pack and my size 14 shoe for size comparison rofl.

I'm guessing it weighed 40-50lbs based on feel alone

This thing was also a PAIN to get back in the water. I let him go to live another day

When did throwing a cast net qualify as fishing? Sounds more like catching to me,,,,,,,,,,,,just saying:eek3::eek3:

Since boredom and having a cast net randomly sitting in your car while you're at a lake doing something else :-D Hard to keep a pole in a Mustang GT 24/7 :-O

But yeah, I agree.. It's not "fishing" per se... However; same result, different tool. Not much different from throwing a line in and waiting for a cat to bite on it ya know? :-)

Since this "fishing" experience involved C&R, does that mean that I am screwed here, since the fish wasn't 50+ years old?

Do I have to write the release down into my logbook?

Do I need to call the BATF or the LADWF here?
