Right now, after Isaac, there are a lot of people looking for and finding a "handyman" to patch holes in the roof and repair leaks, landscape repair, lay carpet and/or tile, mow lawns, etc.

In fact, I used to do this sort of gig when I was younger and make a killing. (Far more than my "regular" job .. on an hourly basis at least.)

I do computer repair, programming, design, network security / consulting, photography, web design, online "yard sale" (ebay, craigslist, and various hobby forums) and a whole host of other things ... great beer money!

    Business cards are cheap!

Other thoughts: Barter/trade, pay with credit cards with 5% rebates/cash back (but you have to be sure to pay it off every month for it to be successful), use public Internet instead of home, find where the free "meals" are (Sams Club samples, parties, church picnics/pot lucks, school events, etc. i.e. be a mooch!), burn less gas, electricity, etc. Note: There are dozens of articles online which are chalked full of ideas.

P.S. They best way to make money is not to spend it in the first place!

I buy watches that worth way more than $100 for $3 each from China and sell them in the Walmart parking lot for $20.

Had to laugh... this reminded me of a visit to Shanghai a couple of years ago. One of my Dutch colleagues bought a "ROLLEX" watch from a street hustler for ~$10; it ran for about 6 hours. He said it was one of the best souvenirs of the city he'd found.

Craigslist, seriously. Like someone said above, you'd be surprised how much you have laying around. And people will buy almost anything.

Before I started my business, I cleaned house and made a killing off of CL.

Not to mention, you can find free or cheap furniture that you can restain/repaint and sell for a nice profit.
