Just got my AR, Need some Optics

Now that I have my AR, and 16 mags, Im ready to sling it and put some optics on it. Im thinking a magnified red dot optic.

I know this has been hashed over alot, so instead of recommendations, tell me what your using.
post a link of where to get the one you use.

Eotech 512 here.

It's such an absolutely personal preference thing though. If possible, I'd see if some nice folks would let you try out their setups before you drop any coin. And it's different shooting them than it is playing with it in the store.

Aimpoint T-1 Mirco... It couples nicely with the 3x Aimpoint magnifier.. But that total glass setup would run about another 900-1000

Mines not magnified but I have the eotech 512.A65 with the RRA Dominator2 Mount...I love it. Cowitness is perfect. I like the fact that you can use the 1 MOA dot for long shots and the 65 MOA circle for CQC work. Mine doesn't have the NV option because I have no use for it. Bought from an Ebay Store for approx. $390 after shipping..

co-witness=means your optic is mounted on the same plane as your iron sights, allowing you to aim through your optic when using your iron sights.

I have the aimpoint comp m2 and always wanted to try out the eotech so I got one. I then sold it maybe a week later and never looked back.

The new owner seems to love it though!

I put an Eotech 512 one of mine last week. After a few shots to get is sighted in and getting used to it, I love it. No need for magnification. Easy changing targets on followup shots.

Just another thought here. My son put a 1.5 X 5 scope on his AR just the other day. You can use it in the low power setting with both eyes open and still crank it up for the long range shots. We haven't had a chance to try it at any 3-gun matches yet but that's the set-up. There are several models that can be purchased for under $400 (American) and they will give you good service.

Just another thought.

+1 for EOTech 512. Mine should be coming in today for Enal's ex-POF. Also, I've got a EOTech 511 on my Sig 556 & an Aimpoint CompM4 + 3X on the LaRue AR. All are excellent optics, just depends on what you like, but the EOTechs are a little more affordable. I paid $350 + S/H for the 512 from a wholesaler in PA that our union has an account with.

Iron sights. Don't worry about being tact-I-cool just yet. Learn how the sights work, cause when you need you weapon the most, the optics will fail and you will be stuck trying to figure out WTF.

Same setup as Beauxdog but with a twist. C-More mounted on the hand guard @ 01:00. The C-More is for anything out to 75 yards or so. The 1.5x5 is good out to 300 yards on IPSC targets.
