I have had my first experience with kidney stones. The PAIN started wed night about 6:30 by 9:30 I was in the ER. I had a heart attack in Oct-the pain from the stones was worse. I started passing them Fri at 1:20 in the morning. HOW can something SO SMALL cause you that much pain? HOW? Thank God for morphine and oxycodone.

I've had them a dozen times in the past 30 or so years. I've always had a fairly high threshold on pain but that pain my friend, I would not wish on my worst enemy. Good luck and I hope you never have them again.

It was explained to me once the reason something so small can cause a great deal of pain is because, proportionately it's like trying to shove a bowling ball through a garden hose. When I had mine I had no idea what it was. I really thought I was dying. I grabbed my life insurance policy, sat it on the table, and drove myself to the hospital.

I passed 3 of them about 8 years ago. The greatest feeling in the world was those temporary moments when the pain would stop.

I passed two, had a third blasted, and am currently harboring a 4th according to recent x-rays. I'd say from personal experience, that when you drink more beer than water (i.e. dehydration), it might have something to do with it...

One a more serious note, most kidney stones are made up of calcium oxalate. Dairy products (which I already avoided) are high in calcium, and of all things iced tea (which I formerly did not avoid) is high in oxalate. I actually thought I was being responsible by drinking lots of iced tea as a substitute for water until I read up on it. Now I concentrate on water and reduced calorie sports drinks for when water just isn't appealing.

There are recent studies that suggest lemon juice, via lemonade, made help counter the formation of the crystals in the kidneys. Not sure if it is due to something in the lemon juice itself, or just the acidic properties (i.e. any acidic juice would work). I drink lemonade as well now at restaurants instead of iced tea.

My wife has passed over 100 in the last 20 years, don't wish that on people I don't like. Hers are mainly hereditary and changing her diet didn't help. She has passed 3 @ one time and nearly passed an 11mm stone once, that one nearly killed her. Stay hydrated is the best advice I can offer. Hope you feel better.

:wtc: My dad had them when I was a teenager. Never would I EVER wish that on ANY human being. Maybe Lucifer. He's not human. He can rot in hell.

Or wonder if God is a Goddess. At least babies come out lubricated and slippery. :D

Wouldn't wish this on anybody. From everything I've heard it's probably worse than gall stones.

The wife has had both, kidney stones are worse! The 11mm stone was oblong and had rearward angled spikes, looked like a badminton birdie!

For me, the first two literally felt like someone was continuously twisting a knife in my lower back, and the worse part was, no matter what you do, you just cannot get comfortable. It hurts to lay down, and you hurt too bad to stand up.

For the third, just had blood in urine. After it was blasted, I peed "sand" on and off for a couple of days. Much easier experience. It remains to be seen what will happen with the current resident onboard.
