after about 40 rounds of surplus ammo the gun gets almost to hot to touch.anything i can do? if not then how did the russians deal with the heat in combat?
40 rds through any weapon relatively quickly will get pretty dang hot pretty quick... I've never shot a Mosin but if the recoil is like I've heard, you will break before the gun does.
the barrel isnt that good of steel for reducing heat. plus the milsurp ammo burns real hot.
it will get hot. nothing you can do about it.
unless you hand load.
Weather has a large effect on whether or not it cools quickly.
But... guns in general... they get hot. I've shot my Browning Hi Power fast enough through some drills that the frame, even, was starting to get pretty hot on the bare hand. Rifles? Yea I dunno.
40 rounds in 30 minutes... yea, with the sun shining on it directly, on a hot day, with little wind... I could see that barrel being a bit steamy. That's just how guns work. Explosions are hot :P
