I have a bolt action old rifle that was flooded in Hurricane Katrina. It has no cash value. If I recall correctly, it is a Sears rifle. It was my grandfather's so it has a lot of sentimental value. I would like to find a cheap but high quality gunsmith to restore this rifle to at least a presentable wall hanger condition. I would like it to be shoot able but I am not likely to ever shoot it again. Prefer Metairie, Kenner, and east bank of Jefferson Parish/Greater New Orleans area.

Pictures are worth a thousand words, but it sounds like you just want it cleaned up and refinished, which I would send to a finisher rather than a gunsmith.

Note that I use the screen name "Grandpa" which means I am old and don't know how to attach pics. Assuming a "finisher" is what I need, than I am looking to find a rifle "finisher" in my general area.

Point made. I'll rephrase "reasonable but high quality." Quality being the higher priority.

If you need help posting pictures, I can guide you through it.

What type of refinishing are you thinking of? Bluing? Parkerizing? Is the stock in poor condition?

I had an old shotgun like that, found it in a rent-house, it was completely beat up, off-brand, even had internal parts missing that couldn't be replaced. I just painted the metal parts with rattle-can flat black, put some tru-oil on the stock and stuck it in the gun cabinet (the one with the glass front, just for display) while keeping more valuable/sentimental weapons in a safe. Can't count the number of friends that commented on the fine looking shotgun in the cabinet, one even offered to buy it before I told him the truth about it.
