What do you plan on using the computer for; video editing, gaming, watching movies, using 1/2/3 monitors, etc. ?

    :)

It's mostly going to be for gaming and watching online movies. I kept my old monitor, but I don't have enough room right now at my desk for a dual monitor setup. I watched some 1080p YouTube vids and they looked really good.

Watching 1080p videos on youtube and playing a game at 1920x1080 are two different beasts altogether :o

Just know if you upgrade your video card for gaming you will need to upgrade your power supply as well and you can't cheap out on it.

Onboard video is normally good enough for stuff like web surfing and normal online video playback but if you are watching DVDs or playing games you will want to get a good gaming card. I don't game but I do a good deal of video editing so I have a fairly good card. and like Bosco said, you will need to be sure your power supply can handle it.

Your current GPU is a Radeon HD 6550
    Core clock 600MHz
    512MB DDR3
    Memory clock 800MHz
    128-bit
I have a 500W power supply on it now. Is that enough?
When buying a graphic card, there will be a min. requirement for how much power you should have.

Really depends on the power supply. Some cheap power supplies will have a high wattage listed but then in fine print it says "peak" or something similar and the constant power is in the 200-300 range :dunno:

I've been out of the hardware game for a while so maybe things are different than they were 5 years ago.

What about the Radeon series? My GPU is 6000 series. Will a Radeon 7000 series work with it? Also i see my GPU has DDR3 will this conflict with DDR5? So many unknowns!
