Palo Alto Pearl Harbor/Battle of Bastogne HPR Match

The next high power match at Palo Alto will be conducted on 17 December and will be our annual Pearl Harbor/Battle of Bastogne (Aw, nuts!) Match. The scores will not go to the NRA so bring out your old WWII era rifles and have some fun. This will be an 80-shot match with two sighting shots at each stage so be sure to bring enough ammo. The entry fee will be $5.00. Modern rifles are of course also welcomed but only the competitors using vintage rifles will be eligible for incidental awards. This will NOT be a reduced course match so please no M1 carbines as they cannot safely go the distance all the way to 600 yards.

Course of fire:
200 yd slow fire standing, 20 shots + 2 sighters, 22 minutes
200 yd rapid fire sitting, two strings of 10 shots each in 60 seconds + two sighters
300 yd rapid fire prone, two strings of 10 shots each in 70 seconds + two sighters
600 yd slow fire standing, 20 shots + 2 sighters, 22 minutes

Competitors,

The annual subject line match is on for tomorrow. The weather is going
to be unseasonably perfect so we are going to lean more towards the
Pearl Harbor side of things rather than Bastogne. Bring that old 03A3
Springfield or M1 Garand (gas trap, lockbar or otherwise) and let's put
it through its paces. If you are feeling Soviet then bring an SVT-40 or
a Mosin-Nagant. We do not discriminate between American or Russian or
German or Japanese or any other vintage rifle that can go the distance
to 600 yards reliably. All are equally welcome. Just no M1 Carbines. If
you are uncertain about your 600 yard sight setting we will work with
you but please understand that after 3 rounds at 600 yards of no
impact/no idea you will have to stand down for that string of fire.
That's a safety issue.

This is an 80 shot match plus sighters so bring a minimum of 88 rounds.
If you feel inclined to bring your monthly modern rifle (AR-15, M1A,
match rifle) then please do so.

I am told that there will be a 6.5 Swedish Mauser there for sale to
include rounds & etc.

Registration opens at 0700 hours and closes at 0800 with first rounds
going downrange by 0845. Registration fee is $5.00.

Keep the sand out of your weapon and I'll see you on the beach. (Show up
and you'll find out what that means.)

December match.

The next approved monthly High Power across the course match is Saturday
the 21st of January and will be an 80 shot match. Registration opens at
0700 and closes at 0800. Entry fee is $12.00 for club members and $15.00
for non-club members. Bring a sturdy coat and ideally a new shooter with
you so that we can grow the sport. If you require any support for a
junior shooter then please call or email me. If you have any questions

Seventeen shooters enjoyed a very pleasant albeit very, very windy day to compete in the annual Pearl Harbor/Battle of Bastogne match. In fact, the wind was so strong from the south (directly from 9 o’clock) that I decided that we would fire the 600 yard stage from the 300 yard firing berm using the 300 yard (SR-3) target. This was not an NRA Approved match. 80 shots (not for record) were fired and we had both vintage rifles as well as non-vintage rifles present. All vintage rifles were Garands with one exception; we had an 03A3 present. In the non-vintage category we had three AR15s and one M1A.
The next high power match at Palo Alto will be conducted on 21 January. Registration opens at 0700 and closes at 0800 with first rounds going downrange by 0845. This will be an Approved match. Please see the attached (to this email) 2017 High Power match bulletin. Note that there will be an EIC High Power Leg match conducted on Sunday the 19th of March, the day after the regularly scheduled monthly High Power match.
