I'm looking to get a good punch set to work on my AR. I would preferably like to buy a whole set with roll pin starter. I've looked at Grace and Wheeler. Any other good ones I should know about?

I have two sets from Lyman, they've done the job on at least 4 or 5 lowers so far. Only bought the second set because I lost the first, and of course it turned up after I bought more.

Any old set of roll pin punches will do on an ar for lower assembly. If you plan to remove the roll pins and reuse them you probably want a better set such as the mentioned starrett.

I use a pair of channel locks to install the roll pins to almost flush, then a few slight taps with a small hammer and a roll pin punch to seat the roll pins below flush. The current punches I am using came from amazon for 10 bucks, pretty sure that are the same as sold from harbor freight.

Now regular pin punches are a different story. I have built a lot of ak rifles and you need good punches to drive the various barrel pins in and out, and remove rivet tails. I am currently using Cornwell punches and they have lasted longer than any of the other junk, Dasco pro, Stanley, Craftsman, etc. In fact I would say that the cheapest harbor freight punches are just as good as any of the mid line variants.

My ar lower assembly tools consist of a no scratch pair of channel locks, single edge razor blade, screwdriver bit set (for the various grip screws), small hammer, rollpin punch set, and a dedicated castle nut wrench. Good tape, such as vinyl or layer masking is needed to prevent scratches on some operations.

The next item you may need is an AR15 bench block. I have the orange one made by Brownell's. It works well for front sight base work. The Wheeler Engineering block is a new one that looks good. I have not tried it but it appears to be handy for all AR15 assembly.
