    Does any body have suggestions on range finders or handheld GPS I am going hunting out of state next month
    and would like to pick these items up before I go.

    I don't know where you're going but if it makes sense, renting a sat phone or using one those emergency locating gizmos might not be a bad idea if you're going to be out in the middle of nowhere.

    I just returned from a New Mexico Elk hunt. The one item I used the most was a good pair of Binoculars. I bought a set of the Nikon Monarch 5's in 12X42. I was well pleased with them. My FIL has a set of Swarovski EL 10X42's and it was only in the early morning or late evening that you could tell a difference. The Nikon's were bought at Cabelas for $329, a substantial savings over the swarovski's.

    For a range finder I bought a Leica rangemaster 1600B. It is pricey at $800 but it worked great and fast. I was able to range moving elk at 1200 yards and even ranged prairie dogs at 600 yards easily.

    For a GPS, I like the low end Garmins, like the etrex legend if you can still find one.
