Received updated CHP today

Back in September of last year I submitted my renewal and opted for the Lifetime permit. In October I received a Lifetime permit along with a note that their current system did not recognize lifetime and that once their system was updated I would then be sent an updated permit. Well today I received that updated permit. Couple of things I noticed right off. The picture is the one from my drivers license that I renewed in 2011. The issue date is back dated to the dateof my first CHP issue date. Everything else is the same except now it states expires lifetime.

Could you explain the cost of it?

How/why is it beneficial to get a lifetime?

Under age 65 cost is $500, 65 and above is $250. You still have to go to a renewal class every 5 years.

Cost wise it is only beneficial for the younger than 45. The greatest benefit is that you do not have to wait on a renewal. You just have to submit your training documit every five years.

I got my permit a few weeks back, and they also used my drivers license photo instead of the one i submitted. If i would have had the extra money i would have done the lifetime. Having to not turn in all the paper work is worth it IMO.

It also protects you from any cost increase if/when they should happen in the future.
