Rep. Ernest Wooton, State Representative from Belle Chase, LA is running for the United States Senate as an Independent, seeking election to the seat currently held by Louisiana U.S. Sen. David Vitter.

Rep. Wooton is extremely pro-Second Amendment and author of HB556 (Act 925), which exempted concealed carry permit holders from the 1,000' "gun free school zone buffer."

I wonder how his candidacy will be received throughout the state in general and the pro-Second Amendment crowd in particular?

    Any thoughts???

Awfully difficult to beat an incumbent - they have lots of money to spread around. Many individuals feel the independent candidates siphon votes from the republican candidate and therefore will vote for the republican candidate even if he / she is not the best candidate. Even with Vitter's inability to keep his zipper closed and his apparent inability / disinterest in vetting his own staff I would say Mr. Wooton has an uphill battle at best. I wish him good fortune.

    What makes you think this?

charlie is behind in the polss and the need something to chip away at vitter's supporters. this year there is no way many people will vote for a democrat in louisiana so the next best thing is to get another conservative in there to take votes making it a smaller lead vitter has going into run off and it gives someone who is an underdog who can throw mud without charlie having to do it himself and suffering the consequences of it. this is a not so uncommon political tactic. you get someone in there that either plays themselves off as a member of the other's party or someone who legitimately isbut you convince them they have a real chance or you offer them something they would like if they play along. wooton is an old term limited man who has nothing ahead of him in the state senate. i think he has been offered an important job if he makes the run.
