If you sbr/sbs it, di you have to pay two tax stamps?

    That's a funny question.

. A firearm that meets the definition of a SBR consists of a rifle that has a barrel less than 16 inches in length. A SBS consists of a shotgun that has a barrel less than 18 inches in length. The serialized receiver is recorded for registration in the National Firearms Registration and Transfer Record (NFRTR).
^from the ATF NFA FAQ page

Not exactly clear, but the best I could find. I guess you'd just have to see whether the item is classified as a shotgun or a rifle, upon purchase, and stick with whatever it is. The only other thing I could find was where a revolver has been made to fire shot by replacing the barrel with a smooth-bore barrel... but that was a $200 tax to turn it into an AOW, with $5 subsequent transfer fees. That was a retooling of the gun to fire different ammo though, whereas the original question is just about chopping the barrel.

I saw one at Academy on Airline in BR today. Certainly has a "cool factor" to it. I wouldn't mind having one. Flash guard is definitely on both sides. Appeared to have a choke tube of some sort, but was in a fully rifled barrel. I'm not sure how that works. Heard too many things about donut patterns when firing shot out of a rifled barrel. I think it would be a cool short range hog/deer gun if loaded with 45lc or 410 slugs. Not too keen on the stocks. Don't expect much from Rossi, but this thing was tagged at $540ish. I would think for that much money, it should have had better wood.
