Anyone have some tips for packing a
nd long distance transporting a carcass or skin to a taxidermist? Most likely, it'll be a coyote skin to be made into a rug, but a full body mount of a 'yote or jackrabbit could be a possibility. Is it better to have the work done near the hunt and the finished work shipped to me at home?

It really depends. Are you shipping it international or state to state? To your self? From you to taxidermist?
How long prep time before you ship?
Easiest way is to buy several pounds of salt and salt the heck out of it. Then make a "taco" out of it, flesh to flesh. Roll it up and put it in a trash bag and ship it USPS.
Or freeze it, then ship it 2-3 day air. This time of year it won't start rotting for 4-5 days.

There's several places online that specialize in doing hides from distant customers. They have very detailed shipping instructions.
