I have two inexpensive, 9mm CZ clones and both shoot reliably and accurately. I am comfortable with them.

However, I would also like to own a .45acp semi-automatic and am looking at the Sig P220 and a Sig 1911 style. Both cost about the same. I have owned 1911s in the past (Kimber and Taurus) and want to get back into 45s. (By the way, the Taurus actually out-shot the Kimber.)

Has anyone fired both the P220 and the 1911s? Pros and cons would be appreciated. However, not really interested in Glocks or a debate about them -- I sold my G19 a long time ago because of snappy recoil, inaccuracy and being "unsafe" to me.

A cousin of mine has a Sig 1911 Scorpion and its a very fine rig. A Sig 220 Elite Dark is extremely high on my short list to buy.
Personally I like the idea of a Colt 1911 (or two) and a Sig 220, as far as .45s are concerned.

With the 220 are you leaning towards the SAO to be more comparable with the 1911, or Sa/Da, DAK, SRT?

I've probably got 5k rounds through my P220 and never once had a jam or misfire. It does have a larger grip than the 1911 which makes it easier for me to control, but I would love to get my hands on a Colt 1911 in the future just for nostalgic purposes. I like the 1911 but I'm far more proficient with my P220.

The Sig 1911 is a good looking and well made 1911. I like 3fifty7 's question regarding the choices in trigger pulls. I also like Sig's new SRT trigger system. For carry, I would look at the Sig 220 carry with the SRT. You don't have to worry about using a manual safety.

I like both, however im a 1911 man. I do own a sig 226 tho and I enjoy it. The only thing on the sig 1911 that im not fond of yet is the external extractor. Good luck with your descision. I vote 1911.
Btw is this going to be a all purpose pistol or range only?

Sig 220, especially with the SRT is a fine platform. I have several Sig 1911's though and can vouch for them as being reliable and accurate right out of the box. Tough to recommend anything since the platforms are, in my opinion, pretty far apart. I shoot my 1911's for fun. Self and home defense situations call for more rounds per magazine!

I use to own a SIG P220 Elite Dark model, with the SRT, beaver tail, it really felt like a 1911 in my hand kinda. It was a great shooter only reason I let it go was to buy another gun, it was either sell the Sig or sell my H&K. I carried the H&K and the Sig was my nightstand gun. But I wouldn't hesitate to get another one if the chance presented it self.

You can't go wrong with either of the 220, 227, and 1911. The 227 is next on my list and I have 2 of the Sig 1911's (Tacops with threaded barrel, and a 2-tone ultra compact). I absolutely LOVE their 1911's and IMO they make the best on the market now.

That being said I have never shot the 227. I'll let you guys know when I do (buy one and shoot it).

Put them all in your hands and see which ones you like the best.

I own both and like both. That said... take a look at the 227 if 45acp is your goal. Similar to the 220 in look and trigger, but holds more rounds. I am personally a 9mm guy and use the MK25 as my HD gun, but the 227 would be a good choice if I wanted to switch to 45acp. Good luck on your decision.
