I plan to to some hog hunting in Pear River WMA. I heard it is loaded with cotton mouths. Does normally wear snake boots in Jan and Feb? I heard that snakes are not as active in colder weather.

I would say I've ran into a decent amount of cotton mouths over at the Pearl. I can't say they all or always hibernate or don't, because snakes don't always need to hibernate here since it doesn't get that cold. I guess it varies depending on the weather. I have a pair of waterproof snake boots, but they are roughly an inch or two shorter than my waterproof neoprene boots. At times I'd say it can get really wet and sloppy where I walk, so depending on the previous/current weather and where I plan on walking I will decide which boots I wear. But it's also been my experience that cotton mouths seem to do everything they can to get away from you and not having to strike. I'm just always very mindful of where I step.
